Sutton Premier Realty, Surrey and Brian Kirkwood of Prudential Power Play Realty, Langley, received the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board’s (FVREB) highest awards for community service at the Board’s Annual General Meeting, February 22 at the Coast Hotel & Convention Centre in Langley.
Kirkwood is the individual recipient for the 2011 REALTORS® Make Good Neighbours award; and Sutton Premier Realty, the corporate recipient. The award was accepted by Managing Broker Kelvin Neufeld and Owner Larry Anderson.
The awards are presented annually for community giving and volunteerism outside of the real estate profession. Board president, Sukh Sidhu, presented the honours. “REALTORS® are in the unique position of living where we work and working where we live, so we see the direct impact when we donate time or money to our neighbourhoods and communities.
“Our REALTORS® Make Good Neighbours recipients take that dedication to their communities to the next level.”
Kirkwood, a REALTOR® of eight years, volunteers on average 40 hours per month and has done so for over a decade. He devotes his time to enriching and empowering children through his church’s Saturday Kids Club and outreach ministry; in addition to the Metro Kids Society of Surrey.
In addition to sponsoring a number of community events including a soccer day camp at a local elementary school, Sutton Premier Realty’s 118 REALTORS® pooled their time and money to sponsor 12 underprivileged families participating in Surrey’s Christmas Bureau program.
The Fraser Valley Real Estate Board launched the REALTORS® Make Good Neighbours awards in 2002. Recipients are selected based on the amount of time they spend volunteering, level of responsibility undertaken as volunteers and overall impact of their efforts within their communities. The selection panel is composed of people outside the real estate profession who work in local charities and non-profit associations.
